Anushthan अनुष्ठान is a Sanskrit word originated from Vedas and means a particular ritual to appease Gods & Goddesses. An Anushthan contains several rituals together and is performed for a particular purpose. In an Anushthan is the target or the aim the most important and the Mantras are customized according to the target. An Anushthan is so conscious and centralized ritual that it is sometimes used as an adjective for a concentrated performance. It may be compared to Yagya or Yajna however it has little difference with Yagya. Yagya is a very broad word and has many interpretations. There are several kinds of Yagyas and not all Yagyas necessarily need to be for a target or for a desire. Some are even not literally Yagya. Like, study or teaching is Gyan-Yagya and that has no direct relation between mankind and God. Unlikely, Anushtan is a performance for a purpose. However it may not contain a purpose to harm anyone or anything, it still concentrates on a target and implements Vedic Mantras in a particular way for a particular benefit. An Anushthan contains Recite of Particular Mantras, Singing of Vedic Rhyms / Verses, Fire Sacrifice (Home / Hawan), Rituals, Prayers, Donations and Eating of Pandits. Anushthan os basically a technical name of Remedial Yagyas. On this website we will deal with most of the Anushthans prescribed in Vedas and Scriptures to solve a problem, to prevent a problem or to fulfil possible desires of mankind. No rituals or mantras have been listed here which are not referred or prescribed in the scriptures.
