“I am the source of all creation; everything emanates from Me. The wise who understand this engage in My devotion with all their heart.”
— Bhagavad Gita
Krishna says that he is present in everything, and everything originates from Him. Then why is there so much diversity in this world? The differences we see in nature are not actual divisions but rather a support system — everything keeps everything else in motion.
Many people ask: Should we keep pets, especially dogs or cats?
There are many answers to this, and everyone has their own reasoning. But if your love is genuine, then my suggestion is: you don’t need anyone’s advice to keep a pet. However, this love should not be for ego satisfaction or to show off.
Also, keep in mind that having pets does not mean you can ignore your duties (dharma) or karma.
Now, the question is: What kind of pet should you keep?
If you like dogs, a black female dog is considered best for financial stability, health, and happiness.
If you prefer cats, then a white cat is ideal. A cat brings in feminine energy, which is believed to attract wealth.
In astrology:
Dogs are associated with Mars and Ketu.
If someone’s birth chart shows an afflicted Ketu, they may have a fear of dogs or get bitten by them.
If a dog becomes aggressive just by seeing someone, that person should not be easily trusted.
Male black dogs are considered good — they provide protection and blessings.
Bringing a dog into your home during a Mars nakshatra and a cat during a Venus nakshatra is considered most favourable.
But remember: If you have any doubt about being able to care for pets, then instead of keeping one at home, you can donate food to street dogs or animal shelters. This itself is a powerful astrological remedy.
Also, never choose a large or muscular dog just to satisfy your ego, because if their energy doesn’t match yours, they can turn out to be unlucky for you.
People whose Moon and Ketu are close together in their chart should regularly donate food to dogs.
We must always remember that all living beings are part of God’s beautiful creation. So never disrespect them by giving them leftovers or spoiled food.
Maharshi Ramana, though a great saint, made special arrangements for non-vegetarian food for the dogs that came to his ashram — such was his compassion.
